Hatha Yoga

Most forms of yoga can be classified as Hatha Yoga

Hatha is the practice of physical yoga postures, so your Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga classes are all Hatha Yoga.

The word “hatha” can be translated two ways: as “willful” or “forceful,” or the yoga of activity, and as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha), the yoga of balance.

Hatha practices are designed to align and calm your body, mind, and spirit in preparation for meditation.

The traditional holistic practice of Hatha Yoga encompasses not only the physical aspects of yoga practice (such as asanas or postures and mudras), but also breathing, meditation and spiritual purification.

There are 5 main branches or paths in the path of Yoga:

  • Bhakti: Yoga of devotion and love.
  • Jnana: Yoga of knowledge.
  • Kharma: Yoga of disinterested service to others.
  • Raja: mental yoga.
  • Hatha: physical yoga (asanas, pranayamas, meditation).

Hatha Yoga is the most practiced yoga style in the world today and can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age, religion, sex or physical condition; The practice adapts to each person regardless of their condition.

Recently, Hatha Yoga has been diversifying into branches or styles such as Iyengar, Asthanga, Kundalini, Bikram and many others. While each of these styles may have different approaches or approaches, all have in common the same basis of Hatha Yoga, focusing attention on the union of the body-mind-spirit through asanas, pranayamas and meditation.
